Dyscalculia is similar to dyslexia, in that the person experiences problems and confusions, not with words, but with numbers. Maths uses a series of shapes and symbols to represent amounts; this can lead to a deep rooted confusion about symbols, amounts and the actions that occur.Issues with untidiness, time and time management can also be closely linked with problems with maths, so children and adults can be helped to resolve three problems at the same time.
A Davis® Maths Programme uses the same hands-on, multi–sensory techniques, as the Dyslexia Programme. A visual learner will find it much easier to understand something, especially if they can pick up, move around, cut up and squash together, using clay instead of paper and pencil. Using a series of maths exercises, the learner is taken back to basics, layer by layer, until the place where the confusions stems from is reached, it is then an easy task to remove this confusion, so that it will not be a problem in the future.
